The impact of demographics variables on emotional intelligence and communication effectiveness on job satisfaction

Today emotional intelligence is a popular topic of many discussions among academic scholars and corporate executives. What exactly is emotional intelligence, and what role does it play in business and in education? In this paper, I will attempt to answer these questions by providing definitions and a brief history of emotional intelligence (EQ); by discussing the key components of emotional intelligence. This paper seeks to accomplish four objectives. The first is to provide meaning of emotional intelligence (EI), communication effectiveness, motivation, job satisfaction, and demographic variables. The second is to develop an integration model showing the relationships among EI, communication effectiveness, motivation, job satisfaction, and demographic variables. The third is to invest in people through EI activities, communication effectiveness and motivation, job satisfaction, and demographic variables programs. Lack of recognition of the interconnection among EI, communication effectiveness, motivation, job satisfaction, and demographic variables in the literature motivated the authors to write this paper.

At present, there is very little empirical literature on EI within the context of the educational administrations, particularly on relationships EI, communication effectiveness, motivation, job satisfaction, and demographic variables and how manager’s EI is affected on communication effectiveness and  job satisfaction, that have attracted considerable attention in the organizational literature.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF JUDICIAL REVIEW & ABUSES OF ADMINISTRATIVE DISCRETION

Discretion in layman’s language means choosing from amongst the various available alternatives without reference to any predetermined criterion, no matter how fanciful that choice may be. A person writing his will has such discretion to dispose of his property in any manner, no matter how arbitrary or fanciful it may be. But the term ‘discretion’ when qualified by the word ‘administrative’ has somewhat different overtones. ‘Discretion’ in this sense means choosing from amongst the various available alternatives but with reference to the rules of reason and justice and not according to personal whims. Such exercise is not to be arbitrary, vague and fanciful, but legal and regular [1].

ln Rooke’s case[2] COKE J. said, “notwithstanding the words of the commission give authority to the commissioners to do according to their discretions, yet their proceedings ought to be limited and bound into the rule of reason and law. For discretion is a science or understanding to discern between falsity and truth, between wrong and right, between shadows and substances, between equity and colourable glosses and pretences, and not to do according to their wills and private affections. Discretion is to know through law what is just.”

The Law of Success

This is not meant to be a book report because I have not finished reading Napoleon Hill’s 1925 book “The Law of Success” for the first time.  I know personally that I will have to read it a second time and maybe a third time before all his words of wisdom really sink in!

Roughly 20 years ago, I was a department manager for a mass retailer in the midwest of the United States.  The owner took a slight liking to me because I spoke fluent German.  He did too!  I was a “newbie” in retail and I wanted to be a success.  I read everything I could get my hands on.  The owner had written a book about how his father had opened his first retail store, a sort of “general store” in the early 1930′s.  In the book, I read how one day a man came into the store with a bag of puffed rice. He had purchased it at another store.  Well, the author of the book, was the 17 year old son of the owner of that store at the time.  He wasn’t going to take the package from the man and wasn’t going to give him a refund for something he purchased somewhere else.  His father took him aside and explained that he was to take the puffed rice back and give the stranger a refund.  Well, he did what he was told and low and behold, that strangers started to shop regularly at his father’s store.
